Women's Football Medicine Conference

During the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup, Melbourne’s La Trobe University hosted the Women’s Football Medicine Conference.

The event was supported by Football Australia.

Dr Jones was invited to co-chair a Conference Session, which included prominent researchers and clinicians presenting on topics such as “the athlete’s heart”, concussion, ACL injury and prevention, and Energy Deficiency/Nutrition.

The purpose of the Conference was to highlight the growing amount of research on medical and performance issues specific to females playing Football, and to emphasise the female gender differences that occur in or influence common medical injuries or illnesses.

The Conference was a success and will add to the impetus that has developed in trying to reduce the disparity between the amount of research presently dedicated to Men’s as compared to Women’s Football.
