Aug 02, 2024

The Australian Men’s Football Team, “the Socceroos,” recently successfully qualified
for the 3rd and final qualification stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The team was undefeated during the second stage of qualification which was a
“Home and Away format” against Lebanon, Palestine, and Bangladesh.

Due to the military conflict in Gaza, the away matches against Lebanon and
Palestine were played in alternate venues of Canberra, and Kuwait respectively.

Dr Jones’ role as Team Doctor for the Socceroos involved traveling with the team for all their matches.

His tasks involved medical screening of players, injury management, and treatment of general medical conditions, match day field of play emergency treatment, and
strategies aimed at optimizing player and staff welfare with respect to international
travel, infectious disease, performance, and the impact of environmental conditions
when playing in foreign countries.

The 3rd stage of qualification will commence in the September FIFA window, whereby the Socceroos will attempt to qualify for their 6th consecutive FIFA World Cup Finals.
