AFC Medical Conference

Dr Jones was an invited attendee at the recent AFC (Asian Football Confederation) Medical Conference held in July in Kuala Lumpur.


The Conference is currently held every 2 years and presents current scientific evidence and research in the fields of Sports Medicine, Sports Science, Sports Nutrition, Sports Psychology and Sports Dentistry.


The Conference is of 5 days duration and includes Specialised Workshops on Anti-Doping and Emergency Medicine which Dr Jones attended to maintain his accreditation as an AFC Medical Officer. There is currently a total of 3 doctors representing Australia as AFC Medical Officers.


Dr Jones was invited to Chair a Keynote lecture at the Conference by Professor Rob Duffield, who works as Football Australia Head of Research within the Medical Department managed by Dr Jones. Professor Duffield discussed Travel and Jet Lag, which is a topic of high priority within the Senior Football Teams at Football Australia.


In addition, Dr Jones was invited to lecture at the Conference in a Symposium dedicated to Challenges of Working with a Team. His lecture was titled “Travelling with a Team: My Experiences as Team Doctor”, based on his anecdotal experiences over many years with the Socceroos and aligned with current scientific evidence on these challenges and strategies to overcome them.
